Our services
Generation Zero Clones
We provide virus, viroid & pathogen-free, consistent and certified cannabis tissue culture clones. In addition to this, our exclusive production service provides customers with access to unique varietals and cultivars.
Synthetic Seeds
We create hydrogel encapsulated somatic embryos which allows for the sterile preservation of your cannabis plants. This maintains the genetic integrity of your asset and our facility cryogenically stores backups of your varietals. In the event of crop loss due to viruses and pathogens or facility ruination you are immediately able to get straight back into your production cycle.
DNA Extraction
In our genomics lab we extract your cultivar’s DNA for registration of it on phylogenetic matrixes. This is invaluable for growers, distributors, breeders, and authorities, including establishing and confirming cultivar identity across the distribution network. This must-have service allows for informed decision making for plant improvement and monitoring for somaclonal infidelity.
Embryo Rescue

Viroid And Pathogen Detection
Our analytical laboratory can detect Hop Latent Virus (HLVd), Cannabis Cryptic Virus (CCV), Lettuce Chlorosis Virus (LCV) and many others. If left undetected these viruses can significantly reduce the yield and potency of cannabis plants. With DNA-based pathogen detection services from Afcann, cannabis and hemp cultivators can identify plants infected with a number of viruses, molds, mites and viroids, including powdery mildew, botrytis, russet mites & fusarium. Cultivators who implement this as an adjunct to their IPM strategy can reduce their risk of enduring costly pathogen outbreaks and dramatically increase yield.

Mich started his career in the petrochemical industry with Polifin and the defence industry with Thales, before joining PSG Investment Bank in 1999. In 2003, he joined Siemens Business Services. In 2008, he joined the SAGIT group where he worked on the Eden Island Project in the Seychelles and mining operations in West Africa before focusing on SAGIT’s renewable energy developments. Mich joined Gaia Group in 2012 where he currently serves as the Executive Chairman.

Marais is a qualified Industrial Engineer, and thereafter developed his finance skillset by studying accounting. In 2019, he started his career at Deloitte London, where he qualified as a CA (SA) in 2022. During his time working in professional and financial services, he developed a strong accounting, finance and management background, working with many listed corporate clients in various industries.
